people saying we have to have a new chant is childish to me-people who can not deal with their kids is childish to me (I mean who is the adult). What about the
ones who are offended by the fighting or beer sales? Do you really need beer to enjoy a hockey game-and how do you explain to your 4 yr old that the guy
sitting in front of them is drunk and what that means. I would rather my kids hear someone say "suck" than see the drunk guy get behind the wheel of
a car.

is Tommy talking about how much he likes the fighting and checking in the hockey game and then turn around and talk about how we need to stop the
"suck" chant????? OMG!!!! can you say oxymoron???????????? or talking out of 2 sides of your mouth????????????? uh----- let's see here---
teaching a kid to fight and beat the crap out of someone or he tells someone "you suck"--- hey parents your kid's school is on the
phone--- they said you just suck, you just suck!!! I think I would MUCH rather answer the phone call about my kid telling someone "they
suck" rather than "your kid just beat the crap out of little Johnny, his parents will be suing you for the hosital bill"

I agree. I see the problem with the attack on the chant as emblematic of things to come. I am totally thankful that this fellow has stepped forward to save the Bugs. But he needs to hear what the fans say and understand that this little marketing to families that don't like this word could cost him a bunch of ST holders. I enjoy the MudBug games for the hockey.....but the chants! Whoa! I have attended games in several levels and all over the southern and northeastern US and no fanbase shows the excitement of a Bugs crowd after a score. The chants are are an added thing.....(I realize that it don't have to be "you suck" chants) that makes attending games in your arena a hoot. The "you suck" chant has always been on the edge of hollering a dirty word and not getting into trouble for it. Brings out the kid in ya. So it was something folks laughed out-loud when first heard and then giggled as they were able to join in on next score. I say, you try and kill the organized chants then you will kill the energy. Kill the energy and ya kill one of the reasons folks attend. To have that little bit of fun and feel they are apart of the team effort to win. If we're gonna change.....let's make it something simple like, when we score we just get up and holler all together, "Your momma!" Nothin' nasty there. Kind of a nice salute to the other team's family.

Personally I don't find the chant offensive. During our 3 years in Bossier City of which 2 years we were season ticket holders I never found myself nor
anyone in my family receptive of that chant. Nor did we partake. We just stood..yelled and screamed/clapped out hands and went through the motions. I don't
think (again personally) that it is so much the word "suck" but the meaning behind the phrase. It is degrading and just plain ignorant. If someone
walked up to me on the street that I didn't know and said "you suck" I would certainly be a bit UMMMMM tweaked.
I understand it is tradition, I understand that it is part of the energy and atmosphere. Certainly something else can be said. I have read some posts from people blowing off steam stating it will ruin things, I'm not going to renew my season tickets and other things such as that. Talk about childish/immature behavior. GROW UP!!!! Ok the rant is over. Now I will go back to learning Japanese!!!...I can't believe I have been here nearing 2 years and still can't speak it. To all of you that know me....HELLLOOOOOOOOOO from here.

Fans are kind of funny. They are passionate about something or they aren't really fans.
When ya start messing with the fans ya mess with the reason there is a team. Like I said....something else could be used. But........finding that something else is not gonna be easy. And I think he has picked the wrong time to start trying to find something else. There are a ton of other things to address. Maybe......that was left out of the article. Maybe he has an idea of a new thing to be done to make losing this little semi-offensive tradition a little easier to swallow for the hardcore fans who do holler it. Talk of not renewing season tickets is not a crybaby response. It is a heads-up that that person now worries that their new owner may be about to mess with more than just the chant. And they want to see if the product is worth going all in on. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! |

Let me clarify...I know I can't control what people say but i would LIKE to get rid of the "suck" chant. I would like to see more positive
energy directed towards our team. I know it feels kinda good to yell and stir up the other team but it sure would be nice if everyone could come to a
game and not worry about their kids picking up poor sportsmanship and saying "you suck" about everything. Even
the rowdiest fans in the league (Wichita) show a little more restraint. I would like to propose a contest to see who can come up with something better.
The winning prize will be determined.

Ok, like what he wants or not he's the boss now so unless you(we) want to fork out the millions it's time to put up or shut up.
How about when we score instead of yelling to the other team "you suck" we could yell to ours "you rock!" complementing our guys for a job well done and still keeping time with the rest of the chant. Doesn't have the same degrading and intimidating rattle on the other guys but it could work. |

Old Dogger wrote:it sounds more like a casual comment if you ask me. when you read it, it doesnt appear that he thought really hard and said "wow, let's get rid of that you suck cheer." it sounded like an afterthought of possible changes. you people are so spoiled. don't go if it's that important that you say "you suck" after a goal. because if it's that important to say it, you probably weren't there for the hockey game anyways. im at a loss for words. people who usually complain about other people complaining are the ones leading the way on something so pety. we weren't going to have a team, and now you have grown men complaining about a rah-rah-ree cheerleader chant

I cannot take it anymore. It is petty not pety. I am sorry, but I just cannot stand seeing the same word misspelled over and over when there is a spellcheck.

How about "You Schmuck" ha ha. Working in an elementary school environment has shown me that a term such as 'you suck' is one of the milder
things coming out of many children's mouths. Kids are exposed to so much more than we were at a much younger age, both in school and definitely through the
media. Television and music are loaded with objectionable content that is blindly strewn forth without any real regard for who might be watching and/or
listening. I have always regarded Mudbugs games as a chance to have the opportunity to exercise some parental control and flexibilty, and what I explained to
my kids when the chant first started up was that it is one of the ways the fans can feel more involved in helping their team by taunting the opposing goalie
and trying to get under his skin. They are aware that it's not a judgement of the person, but a vocal comment on his performance moments ago. Does it
actually work? We're really not sure, but it makes our kids feel like they're doing what they can to help the team. Would they say it to anyone outside
the arena? No. Do most kids? I doubt it. On the other hand, will they repeat what ever it was they just heard you say to the driver who cut you off? Much more
likely. As for the fighting, why is it a bad thing to watch two men fighting on the ice for twenty or thirty seconds, but kids can watch a two hour WWE
wrestling program filled with senseless 'more is better' violence and that's okay? How about cage fighting? I have explained to our kids that
usually a hockey fight is about letting your opponent know that you're not going to put up with the things he's doing and sending the message that
you've had enough, or it's about standing up for one of your teammates who's out-sized or out-muscled. They get it. In all my time working in
education I have yet to have to get in the middle of two students recreating a hockey fight, but I have seen more than my share of bruises and scrapes (and a
few sprains) from kids trying to recreate the newest wrestling moves of their favorite wrestler.
So, as for me, if the man who sacrificed of himself to keep our Mudbugs hockey alive is asking my family to stop the chant, consider it done. We owe you that and much more. If not for him the chant would have been silenced anyway. |

You know, I don't even think this has blown as big as it has because of how offensive, or not, the word is. But rather people are upset because they are
being "told" they can't do what they want to do. Think about it....if this particular chant had phased out in lieu of a new one or even if it
just wasn't the cool or in thing to do anymore I really don't think there would be an uproar. It's because you're being told not to do it!
