Senate gets a "twofer" today
Senate rejects offshore drilling bill Notice that the Democratic Senator virtually admits the the supply of oil isn't the problem: "We can't drill our way out of this problem," said Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill. "We can't drill our way to lower gas prices."

Are you surprised at ANYTHING that involves the national Democratic Party? I doubt it.
And Durbin is Hussein Obama's fellow Illinois boyfriend. Another buffoon. What do you expect out of Durbin? He's a Democrat and a leftist. Continue electing these burrowing moles, America, and you will continue to deserve the counter-intuitive policies that they foist upon America. Now I will head home to watch "The Late, Late Show." |

This, a quote from a poster remarking on this debacle. Quite accurate.

The fault lies in the fact that this country has not built any new major oil REFINERIES in the last twenty years. We have the access to the CRUDE, we don't
have enough of the finished product.

So demand has increased, supply has decreased. We don't supply the majority of our own oil, we buy it from foreign nations (and it's all controlled by
OPEC, not Bush). Oil production has gone down by 30% while demand has increased by 40%. What should Bush do about it? Maybe you think he should enact some
"Jimmy Carter" type controls? (which would produce gas shortages & rationing like it did while that buffoon was in office). Any & all
products with a very low price elasticity with no good substitute will always have rapidly increasing prices when production growth falls behind demand growth.
That's why this should have been done while CLINTON was president (along with a few new refineries), so that by now the production growth
would have been able to keep up with demand growth. Clinton had the ear of Congress (or should I say he got whatever he wanted?), which is also another reason
it was a good time to get it done. Get informed just a little before you preach to the choir. And take your own advice:
GET REAL. Editted to add: Apple is 110% correct, also. Our current refineries are operating at greater than 100% capacity. The last one was completed (according to Vice-President of Chevron) in 1976.

This falls squarely on the shoulders of the Congress. No drilling in ANWR, no drilling off the coasts, no permits for refineries, no permits for nuclear
plants, massive regulation of all energy in the US.
